The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom

SpongeBob SquarePants has been on the air since (slight exaggeration to follow) 1958, and yet somehow they’ve never thought to do a stop-motion animated episode until now. This Halloween will see the premiere of “The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom,” at long last.

“The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom” will give fans a look at how SpongeBob’s ghost-pirate friend the Flying Dutchman brings fear back to Bikini Bottom, the denizens of which have retreated into ironic appreciation of previously frightening things like disembodied heads and, well, ghost-pirates. The episode was brought to life with 27 sets located across five stages, and with unusual props like breakfast cereal, glitter, and Popsicle sticks.

You can see a teaser for “The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom” below, and the episode itself will air on Nickelodeon sometime in October, befitting its status as a Halloween SpongeBob SquarePants special. In the meantime, you can read more about the special at The Hollywood Reporter right here.
