‘untitled’: New Book Traces Origins of Japanese Streetwear in Nine Volumes
Some people are interested in the history of Japanese streetwear, other people just have an affinity for deluxe hardcover books. Then there are those who like both of those things – and it’s the latter group who will be most helpless against the lure of untitled, a new book from mo’design inc.
untitled covers 1971 to 1984, when the punk subculture bled into Japanese streetwear and created the foundation for Japanese streetwear as we know it today. This isn’t some slim pamphlet on the subject, either, covering posters, advertising, and 800 different clothing items across nine volumes and 1,468 pages.
untitled will be only available in a limited edition of just 1,500 copies, but it’s also the subject of a gallery exhibition at The Mass in Tokyo, which might be more feasible than getting your hands on one of these books, depending on your situation. The book just costs a little over $300, so either way you can get some more information and place your order here.
