BIKI: “First Bionic Wireless Underwater Fish Drone”

BIKI

It is by this point hackneyed to point out that humans know more about outer space than we do our own underwater depths (and I’m not even sure if that’s actually true), but the point of the expression is that we have a fascinating world right under our noses. With camera drones like BIKI, billed as the world’s “first bionic wireless underwater fish drone,” that world is yours for the exploring.

BIKI’s fish-like structure isn’t just a cosmetic touch. Its 1.12 mph fishtail drivetrain can carry its on-board 4K ultra-HD video camera up to (or should that be “down to”?) almost 200 feet below the surface of the water. Once there, you can control it either with a smartphone app or, if you really want to feel like an Aquaman villain, with its own underwater controller for those that dare to plumb the depths alongside it.

That group includes at least 65 backers on BIKI’s Kickstarter listing here, where you can pre-order one starting at just under $550.
