Jay Z

For a while at least, it appeared that Jay Z was not interested in playing hardball with the streaming services that stand in opposition to his own service Tidal. But fans have recently noticed that much of the artist’s work is nowhere to be found on both Spotify and Apple Music.

As I write this, the only Jay Z albums you can listen to on Spotify are his collaborative projects with R. Kelly, as well as a few stray compilation records. The situation is reportedly not much better on Apple Music, but Tidal and iTunes both have Jay’s complete discography available for streaming and purchase, respectively.

Jay Z has yet to make any kind of public statement regarding this move, but Spotify has confirmed that the removals were made “at the request of the artist.” Whether this is merely part of a contract renegotiation by Jay or if he’s planning to stay on Tidal for keeps remains to be seen. Of course, you could always just buy the Jay Z albums you want, but that might be a bit drastic.
