Natilus: Commercial Delivery Drone Half the Size and Cost of a 747

Natilus

We’re still in an era of drone technology development in which they’re thought of as being small, mostly handheld devices. But if delivery by drone is really going to take off, unmanned crafts comparable in size to cargo ships and planes are going to become a necessary reality, a reality represented in part by the new Natilus commercial delivery drone.

“New” might be stretching the point, since the Natilus isn’t expected to go into production until 2020. But once it does, it will be able to ship up to 200,000 pounds of cargo cheaper and faster than conventional methods. As an illustration, the company uses a trip from LA to Shanghai, which at 200,000 pounds would cost $130,000 and take 30 hours. Compared to a Boeing 747 that’s about a 50 percent price drop, and compared to a cargo ship that’s 17 times faster.

You can get a lot more information, and maybe submit a job application or two, at the Natilus site here. Stay tuned.
