Dislike Button Finally Comes to Facebook … Messenger
For years now, Facebook users have been clamoring for a Dislike button to express the exact opposite of the sentiment connoted by the Like button. Facebook recently added a plethora of emotional reactions to the standard Like, but for many this was an overcomplicated solution to the problem. Now, finally, Facebook has added the fabled Dislike function to its repertoire … but only on Facebook Messenger.
So even though you can’t publicly express your disapproval of your friend’s divorce or dog dying, you can do so by punching the Dislike button in Messenger, giving them a bold thumbs-down show of solidarity. It’s a universally acceptable response to bad news, and one can only hope it makes its way to the main site before too long. Here’s a statement on the feature from Facebook that’s just vague enough to Dislike:
“We’re always testing ways to make Messenger more fun and engaging. This is a small test where we enable people to share an emoji that best represents their feelings on a message.”
