‘Fingers of Steel’: The Fingerboarding Video You Didn’t Know You Wanted (Video)

Fingers of Steel

There are probably thousands of skate videos out there, many of them following the same aesthetic templates, with mixed-film-stock, MTV editing techniques, and loud music. Filmmaker Sebastian Linda has applied these techniques to a slightly different sport: fingerboarding.  And the big joke behind Fingers of Steel is how well the whole thing works anyway.

Fingers of Steel is definitely intended to be tongue-in-cheek, and fingerboarding isn’t exactly an extreme sport, but the tricks in the video (performed by German fingerboard champion Chris Heck, who “fought his way up over the most dangerous, life-threatening tricks, with numerous sore finger injuries, and nerval breakdowns to get where he is today”) are still pretty impressive, especially to particularly uncoordinated viewers. In any case, it’s perfect Friday afternoon viewing if you don’t have a fingerboard of your own to kill those last couple hours at work.

And so, you can watch Fingers of Steel for yourself below. And for more where that came from, head over to Linda’s Vimeo account right here.
