NASA 3D-Printed Habitat Challenge

I don’t think I’ll be exaggerating when I say that recent world events have made the prospect of living on Mars more appealing than ever. A recent design contest from NASA shows what living on Mars might actually look like in the not-too-distant future: The NASA 3D-Printed Habitat Challenge, the winner of which has now been released to the public.

That winner is Mars Ice House by New York’s Team Space Exploration Architecture and Clouds Architecture Office. It’s pictured above, and features a novel inflatable dome design with a protective shell of ice to keep harmful forms of radiation safely outsideā€”a touch that probably contributed to its being named the best submission to the NASA 3D-Printed Habitat Challenge.

You can read more about the NASA 3D-Printed Habitat Challenge at NASA’s official website here, where you can also check out the other finalists in the contest. And it’s not too late to start planning on how to move your stuff to the Red Planet before things get too hairy down here.
