AP40 Retro Controller Pays Tribute to Apple’s 40th Anniversary

The worlds of retro gaming and Apple computers intersect with a new retro-style video game controller that makes a clear visual tribute to the early days of the Apple brand. It’s the AP40 from 8bitdo, a Bluetooth controller that’s compatible with Macs, PCs, and iOS or Android mobile devices, but that’s not the only thing it’s compatible with.

Incredibly, the AP40 can also be connected to an original Apple IIc computer, if you happen to have one. It also works with other 8bitdo devices like controllers and joysticks, as well as next-generation controllers—meaning you could theoretically turn your 40-year old Apple computer into something resembling a video game arcade console.

For more information on the AP40, head over to the product’s Kickstarter listing right here, where pre-orders start at just under $50. It still has a ways to go, fundraising-wise, so this might be a good project to support if you want to actually hold it in your hands.
