Apple Energy: Apple Creates Company to Sell Off Solar Energy
Apple is what’s known in the industry as a “hot brand,” but I respect the intelligence of my readers too much to go for some kind of pun involving that phrase and their most recent endeavor to sell off excess solar energy collected on its Cupertino and Nevada solar farms. It’s called Apple Energy LLC.
Apple Energy isn’t a serious change of pace for a company that reportedly covers 93% of its worldwide energy usage with solar power. But it is a savvy business move, especially since market rates on energy aren’t regulated due to the still-small size of the solar energy marketplace. And it may lead to solar power innovations for planned Apple products in the future (like an Apple automobile, for example).
You can read more about the new Apple Energy corporation at Engadget right here, and stay tuned to see exactly what Apple plans to do with all that extra solar power.
