2001: A Picasso Odyssey

As far as I know, Pablo Picasso and Stanley Kubrick never collaborated on anything, but now they can almost be said to have done so with an assist from Google Deep Dream technology and Bhautik Joshi, for 2001: A Picasso Odyssey.

Full disclosure: I am nowhere near intelligent enough to even begin to understand how Deep Dream works, let alone explain it, but the child’s version seems to be that Joshi used the tech to reinterpret scenes from Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey as a Picasso painting. The end result, though, is incredible, a psychedelic treatment of a movie that was already pretty hallucinogenic on its own.

You can watch (if “watch” is even the right word) 2001: A Picasso Odyssey below. And if you want to see more of Bhautik Joshi’s experiments with Deep Dream – which you definitely do – check out more of his stuff at his official account on Vimeo right here.
