Pilot Translation Earphones Translate Foreign Languages in Real Time
If it sounds like something out of science-fiction, that’s only because it is: Earphones that can translate unfamiliar tongues to the user’s native one, fostering open communication between different planetary systems—or, in this case, different earthly languages. But the people at Waverly Labs have purportedly developed Pilot translation earphones, which can do just that.
Pilot translation earphones sync up with the user’s smartphone for language selection, then offers real-time translation of whatever anyone says within earshot. The second earphone is there for listening to music, and there’s also an offline mode for when you’re away from an internet connection.
A $300 pair of Pilot translation earphones can be reserved at the Waverly Labs site right here, where there’s also more info on how they work. The world being what it is, European-based languages will be supported first, but it’s only a matter of time before Afrikaans and more are added to the earphones’ programming.
