Marble Machine: Band Creates Instrument Using Thousands of Marbles (Video)
Swedish band Wintergatan may seem at first to have lost their marbles, but a closer look will demonstrate that the exact opposite is true. Band member Martin Molin has built a machine that makes music using the perpetual motion of 2,000 marbles in various permutations, and it’s called the Marble Machine.
The Marble Machine boasts a reported 3,000 parts in addition to its 2,000 marbles, and the accompanying video shows Molin using it to play two different pieces, presumably with every sound in the music coming from somewhere in the machine.
Skeptics will be able to see the machine in action when the band starts doing live shows this summer. But for now, you can see the Marble Machine’s debut performance in the video below. For more from Wintergatan, check out the band’s official site right here.
