A Short Film By Spike Jonze

Leave it to Stephen Colbert to let renowned auteur Spike Jonze create an entire opening sequence for (at least one episode of) his show, and for it to feel completely like a part of his body of work. That’s a one-line summary for A Short Film By Spike Jonze, but you should really see the whole thing for yourself.

A Short Film By Spike Jonze opens with a text explanation that Jonze is appearing on The Late Show and wanted to make his own opening sequence. Then, Stephen Colbert wakes up in a field, and we’re off to the races.  And since the photo at the top spoils this anyway, I’ll go ahead and “reveal” that Grover from Sesame Street also makes a welcome appearance.

You can check out A Short Film By Spike Jonze, tap-dancing deftly on the line between serious work and self-parody, below. And for more Late Show clips and stuff, take a look at the show’s official YouTube channel here.
