Air Bonsai: The Anti-Gravity Floating Tree
‘Flatland’ Photo Series by Aydin Büyüktas (Photos)
Turkish photographer Aydın Büyüktaş has a new photo series that makes his home country look like something out of Inception. But actually, Büyüktaş’ frame of reference for this project is a little more obscure than a 2010 Hollywood movie, and you can see what it is in the name: Flatland.
gets its name and its creative inspiration from the 19th century novella of the same name, subtitled A Romance of Many Dimensions (you may have seen references to it in Alan Moore’s League of Extraordinary Gentlemen). Appropriately, the photos in the series are made from blending together images from “many dimensions”–on the ground and from the sky.
The effect is tough to describe but extremely easy to identify, as you can see by checking out some photos from Flatland in the gallery below. And for more of Aydın Büyüktaş’s work, head over to the artist’s official site right here.
