Audi Lunar Quattro for Moon Exploration

Audi Lunar Quattro

It’s been a while since man set foot on the moon, so it’s good to know that some people out there are working on proper technological advancements for when we eventually go back (metaphorically, anyway). Some of those people are working for Audi in view of the $30 million Google Lunar XPRIZE, awarded by Google to encourage the development of a robotic spacecraft for exploring the moon, such as the Audi Lunar Quattro.

The Audi Lunar Quattro gets its name from its four-wheel drive, an Audi signature that’s been carried over from the company’s cars into this slightly more ambitious project. It’s constructed out of aluminum and magnesium in order to survive both the lunar surface itself and the trip up to the moon, which it will need to catch a ride with a rocket withstanding temperatures up to 250 degrees. It’s also equipped with two high-res cameras and a swiveling solar panel for all-important battery power.

You can learn more about the Audi Lunar Quattro and the rest of Audi’s moon-exploration project at Audi’s official “Mission to the Moon” site right here.
