‘Porta Estel-lar': LED Installation Built in Old Airplane (Video)

Porta Estel-Lar

“Audiovisual research studio” Playmodes has come out with a very cool project utilizing a disused airplane. It’s called Porta Estel-lar (Catalan for “star gate”), and it’s a light installation resulting from the collaborative efforts of Playmodes, Eduardo Cajal, PlayMID, and Eduardo Cajal (who owned the plane).

But more importantly than all that, Porta Estel-lar is an extremely impressive piece, immersing visitors in a tidal wave of multicolored LEDs and an eight-channel surround sound system. The whole experience is supposed to replicate a trip into outer space, but a much more colorful one.  In fact, it looks more like Space Mountain than actual space, and that isn’t a complaint on my part.

You can only fully experience Porta Estel-lar in person in Barcelona, but if that’s not possible, the next best thing would be to check it out in the video below. And for more cool stuff in video form from Playmodes, check out the studio’s official page on Vimeo right here.
