Narita International Airport Terminal 3 by Nikken Sekkei (Photos)

Airports all over the world tend to be monuments to bustling humanity and over-stimulation, but Japanese architecture firm Nikken Sekkei came up with a better approach to airport terminal design.  And the Narita International Airport actually let them implement their ideas for their Terminal 3 project.

Narita’s Terminal 3 is the airport‘s home to smaller airlines, and Nikken Sekkei were able to completely redo it for much less than what such an undertaking would have usually cost. Their approach is novel but very intriguing, with a distinct lack of giant electronic signage and a very sleek aesthetic overall. Most striking at first would probably have to be those track-and-field floors, which could introduce a much-needed touch of organization to an often confusing and crowded airport terminal.
