Tortilla Record

Science-fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke has a famous quotation that goes like this: “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” Now that I’ve seen a real, playable tortilla record developed by Rapture Records, I understand what Clarke meant better than I ever have.

The tortilla record was inspired by a video on Vine that imagined a tortilla that can play music, but some genius or group of geniuses determined that this could really happen with laser-etching technology. And so it happened, and the results of this historic experiment have been posted on the internet for everyone to gape at in wonder and awe.

You can watch the tortilla record in action, as well as a compressed version of the process behind printing “Jarabe Tapatío” onto its floury body below. And for a more detailed account of how this miracle food was made, just check out its Instructable right here.
