Pablo Picasso Painting

Tonight, a certain painting by a certain artist is expected by analysts to fetch more than $155 million at auction, which in turn will make that painting the most expensive ever sold on the auction block. The painting is Les femmes d’Alger (version O), and the painter is a guy you might have heard of – Pablo Picasso.

Les femmes d’Alger (version O) is the last in a series of 15 paintings by Pablo Picasso based on the preexisting work of the same name by Eugène Delacroix, and the most revered. And if its estimated valuation turns out to be correct and it gets $155 million or more at Christie’s New York tonight, it will have handily broken the previous art auction record held by Three Studies of Lucian Freud by Francis Bacon ($142.4 million).

To see if this masterwork by Pablo Picasso ends up breaking the art auction price record, you’ll have to wait until it hits Christie’s New York this evening. But you can read more about the piece and its recent valuation over at Mirror right here.
