Cheeseburger in Hydrochloric Acid

With the possible exception of Pulsar: The Ultimate Man of Adventure, most people don’t ever have to see what the digestion process looks like. But this is 2015, and you can look up pretty much anything you want on YouTube – and that includes Cheeseburger in Hydrochloric Acid, a video that shows, uh, a cheeseburger in hydrochloric acid.

Hydrochloric acid is a big component of the acid your stomach uses to dissolve food, which is why the video shows a decent facsimile to what happens in your own stomach during digestion (minus the chewing, unless you’re in the habit of swallowing cheeseburgers whole like J. Wellington Wimpy). It’s appropriately disgusting, and it might keep you from doing any digestion at all in the near future.

You can watch Cheeseburger in Hydrochloric Acid, part of the Periodic Videos web video series, below. And for more from the series, head over to its official YouTube channel right here.
