Melchior

If you took someone from early last century and showed them the robots we have scooting around today, they probably couldn’t help but be a little disappointed. Instead of Rosie from The Jetsons we have little discs rolling across the floor cleaning up dirt. But this hypothetical person would be able to relate to at least one 21st-century robot: Melchior, a new mechanical clock from MB&F and L’Epée 1839.

Melchior boasts an impressive 480 mechanical components, with a 40-day power reserve and a slick, Robby-the-Rob0t-like transparent skull housing part of the clock’s intricate movement. And when it needs winding, you just detach its “gun arm,” which also happens to be a winding key.

For a very cool look at all of Melchior’s different components, check out the video below. Actually getting one might be a little tricky, since it’s only being released in a limited edition of 99 units, but you can try (as well as get some more release information as it becomes available) at the clock’s official site here.
