Pensole Footwear Design Academy and Rooy Launching Design-Your-Own-Sneaker Website
It’s probably a common fantasy among sneakerheads and pop culture fans in general to design their own signature sneaker and have it out there in the marketplace, as well as on people’s feet. Two entities that realize this is a commonplace idea are the Pensole Footwear Design Academy and Rooy, a crowdsourcing platform – together, the two companies have raised $4 million to launch a website that will allow users to make this fantasy a reality.
The sneaker design site from Pensole Footwear Design Academy and Rooy is still in the pre-planning stages, so it doesn’t have a name yet, but one of the driving forces behind it is Pensole founder D’Wayne Edwards, who in used to be a design director for no less a heavyweight than Jordan Brand. Here’s Edwards on the project in a recent interview with Fast Company:
“Say a designer has a great idea but does not know how the shoe can be made. We will work with them to redesign their design to make it manufacturable. We will also conduct online classes that are competitions, leading to designs being made which will increase the quality of the products generated from Rooy Inc.”
Pretty exciting, right? The site doesn’t have a public ETA as of yet, but if you’re a wannabe sneaker designer you might want to get started on those plans as soon as possible just in case.
