LimitEDition x ASICS Gel Lyte V “SurrEDaliste” Is Dali-Inspired (Photos)

If you’re working in any kind of visual art form, it’s a good idea to wear your influences on your sleeve – as the saying goes, “good artists borrow, great artists steal.” Although it doesn’t get talked about in such terms very often, that includes sneaker design, and the new LimitEDition x ASICS Gel Lyte V collaboration takes its cues from legendary surrealist artist Salvador Dali.

The LimitEDition x ASICS Gel Lyte V “SurrEDaliste” references Dali’s famous surrealist style and specifically what is probably his most famous work, The Persistence of Memory (for you fine art neophytes out there, that’s the one with the melting clocks). Small “ants” make an appearance in the inner lining of the shoe, a clear allusion to the ants in the painting, as well as the distinctive splash of sky blue in the heel.

A true surrealist sneaker would probably be worn as a hat or a gas mask or something, but the LimitEDition x ASICS Gel Lyte V “SurrEDaliste” will have to do for now. You can see a few photos of the sneaker in the gallery below, but to get yours you’ll have to be in Barcelona and hit up the LimitEDition store starting on December 20th. More info here.
