Alan Eustace Breaks Felix Baumgartner’s Space Jump Record (Video)
You might remember the day, about two years ago, when daredevil Felix Baumgartner broke the world record for highest-altitude parachute jump, having plummeted to Earth from a staggering 127,852 feet up in the air. As impressive as that stunt was (and still is), I doubt Baumgartner and his Red Bull backers are too happy about the fact that Google executive Alan Eustace has managed to make the record his own.
While Felix Baumgartner seemed to have spent his whole life preparing for his perilous space jump, Alan Eustace did the same in a slightly different fashion – by making lots and lots of money. Eustace’s jump edged out Baumgartner’s by almost 9,000 feet – the exact figure coming to 135,908 feet. How long this record will stand is anyone’s guess.
You can read more about Alan Eustace’s successful attempt to break the world record for space jumps at The New York Times website here. And a short video chronicling the jump can be seen below – but you can expect a lot more footage from the event to hit the internet soon.
