Sir Mix-a-Lot With the Seattle Symphony

Sir Mix-a-Lot will always be known for his 1992 hit “Baby Got Back,” but he’s shown a real acumen for squeezing a lot of expression out of that one song. The latest example is a collaboration with the Seattle Symphony and composer Gabriel Prokofiev.

Prokofiev arranged the orchestral version of “Baby Got Back” as part of the Seattle Symphony’s Sonic Evolution series, which consists of new orchestral versions of works by various individuals in the Seattle music scene. Sir Mix himself appeared on stage with the orchestra as part of the performance, even going so far as to invite women from the audience to join him.

It was an unusual scene for a symphony performance, but I guess that’s kind of the point. You can watch Sir Mix-a-Lot appear with the Seattle Symphony in the video below. And for more from Gabriel Prokofiev, check out his blog post about working with Sir Mix-a-Lot here.
