Apple Reveals iOS 8
At the Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, Apple lifted the curtain on the new iOS 8, an operating system for Apple devices like the iPhone and iPad that will emphasize health and home through two long-rumored but now confirmed pieces of software.
Those would be HealthKit and HomeKit.
HealthKit is iOS 8 software for tracking all kinds of health-related data, like blood pressure, heart rate, weight, and much more, giving users a “single comprehensive picture of your health” for the first time, according to Apple software engineering chief Craig Federighi.
Then there’s HomeKit, which will allow you to control a host of home devices with Siri—the example given at the presentation was to tell Siri it’s time for bed, and she responds by dimming you light bulbs.
The full extent of iOS 8 will become evident as we get closer to its worldwide roll-out in the fall. Until then, unless you’re a software developer, you’ll have to be content with Apple’s overview of the new iOS on their website here.
