The year 2022 probably sounds impossibly far away right now (look at how futuristic those numbers look), but Qatar, UAE, is already preparing for its duties as host city for the World Cup that year. And soccer fans from all over the world who visit for the occasion will have, among other things, floating hotels to look forward to.
Qatar’s floating hotels will be a part of the ongoing trend towards the aquatic expansion of luxury hotels. One particular hotel is the product of Finnish architecture firm Sigge Architects, and will include features like water taxis to and from the hotel. It’s all part of a development called Oryx Island, made up of multiple aquatic hotels near Qatar that will be able to fit a total of 25,000 people.
You can take a look at some conceptual images of Qatar’s Oryx Island project in the gallery at the top of the page. You can also watch a video about the project below. And you can expect a lot more information on Oryx Island as the impressive development gets closer to completion.
