Madden NFL Behind the Scenes

The next Madden NFL game from EA Sports doesn’t have an exact title yet—it’ll either be Madden 26 or Madden ’15, depending on whether they go with series number or year—but most of the rest of the game’s development has already been completed. And EA has recently released a behind-the-scenes video detailing one of the most interesting aspects of that process: the motion capture animation.

Motion capture animation is the process by which realistic movements are captured and rendered into the game by placing sensors on “stunt players,” like Omar Nazel, Kenny Bell, and Matt Spanos, and recording every detail of their actions during simulated game play. Those actions include everything from tackles and passes to smaller details like fidgeting in between plays.

And you can see how the whole thing works by watching the video below, called “Madden NFL: The 33rd Team,” from The New York Times. As for the next Madden game, it’s set, like always, for release sometime in August.
