The relationship between Nike and Kobe Bryant is hitting some pretty lofty areas with the new Nike Kobe 9 Elite Masterpiece Collection, a trio of new colorways, two of which are explicitly inspired by artists Pablo Picasso and Michelangelo. I wonder if they were basketball fans.
Anyway, the “INSPIRATION” Kobe 9 Elite is a homage to Los Angeles and Kobe’s long and storied history with that famous city. Meanwhile, the “PERSPECTIVE” colorway is said to take inspiration from Picasso’s famous “Blue Period,” with the “Detail” going even higher-brow with an homage to Michelangelo (the artist, not the Ninja Turtle). And all three of these new Nike Kobe 9 Elites maintain the familiar features of previous installments of the sneaker, including Nike technologies like Flyknit, Flywire, and Lunarlon.
The “INSPIRATION” Kobe 9 Elite will be worn by Kobe Bryant himself soon, and all three will hit retailers in Marc; “INSPIRATION” on March 1st, “PERSPECTIVE” on March 8th, and “Detail” on March 22nd. Until then, you can take a look at the Nike Kobe 9 Elite Masterpiece Collection in the gallery up top.
