Titanic Theme Park Launch

There are a lot of properties out there that are untapped potential theme park attractions, including comic strips, books, video games, and movies. But very few of those properties have the name recognition of the RMS Titanic, the famously doomed ocean liner from the early 20th century. So it makes a weird kind of sense that a full-size replica of the Titanic is set to become a theme park attraction in China.

And it’s not just the facsimile Titanic‘s size that will make it a ticket-seller for the upcoming Romandisea Seven Star International Cultural Tourism Resort—it will also allow hundreds of visitors at a time experience what the Titanic‘s wreck was like, with real water and special effects. Here’s Su Shaojun, the Seven Star Energy Investment Group’s chief executive, on the project:

“When the ship hits the iceberg, it will shake, it will tumble. We will let people experience water coming in by using sound and light effects … They will think: ‘The water will drown me. I must escape with my life.'”

Sounds, uh, fun?

The Titanic attraction at Romandisea Seven Star International Cultural Tourism Resort is set to open in 2016 in Sichuan, China.
