The city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates has a reputation for outlandish opulence and luxury, so a fireworks show could have been just another night for them. But instead, the city chose to put on the biggest fireworks show in human history for its New Year’s Eve celebration, in order to seize the world record for fireworks displays away from Kuwait.
The world’s biggest fireworks show in Dubai was “big” in pretty much every sense of the word, including the amount of firepower on display (400,000 firework canisters), geographical size (94km of Dubai’s famous seafront), and the elaborate nature of the display (400 different locations of fireworks in all). And this wasn’t exactly a close breaking of the previous Guinness World Record, either, as it is reported to have been shattered within the first minute of the six-minute fireworks show.
Dubai’s record-breaking New Year’s Eve fireworks show is yet another point of pride for the emirate, and you can see its representatives receiving their official accolades for breaking the world record in the gallery up top (as well as a pretty cool wide shot of the fireworks show itself).
Happy New Year, everybody!
