New from Nike and Kobe Bryant comes the latter’s 9th signature sneaker with the brand, and the first since 2007 to sport a high-top cut. And that’s not the only milestone represented by the Nike Kobe 9 Elite.
Another is the fact that the Nike Kobe 9 Elite is the first basketball sneaker in Nike’s history to use Flyknit technology, which is joined by Dynamic Flywire for a high-top sneaker that may feel suspiciously like a low to the wearer. There’s also the clever visual touch of nine red embroidered stitches on the back as a homage to Kobe’s nine Achilles sutures—that injury also being the likely reason these sneakers are high-tops to begin with.
The Nike Kobe 9 Elite is set to hit select retailers on February 8th of next year, but you can get a look at the shoe (and its “Masterpiece” colorway) in both the gallery above and when Kobe Bryant wears them for his upcoming return to the NBA.
