The 2013 Oxford Dictionaries Word of the Year Is “Selfie”
Then again, “selfie” beats out other finalists like “twerk,” “bitcoin,” and “binge-watch,” so this could have been a whole lot worse. The honor comes after research by Oxford University Press discovered that “selfie” experienced a 17,000 percent increase in usage over last year. And, in case you’re curious, the first documented use of the term was found in a forum posting from back in 2002.
