Roger Federer’s Orange-Soled Nike Shoes Banned From Wimbledon
Tennis is one of those sports that can be home to sticklers about dress code, etiquette, and the like. For proof, just take a look at the admonishment that tennis star Roger Federer received over his orange-soled Nike trainers, worn during his first-round Wimbledon win on Monday.
The shoes, which are mostly white but with bright orange soles, were found to be in violation of Wimbledon’s “almost entirely in white” dress-code. I would have thought orange soles under all-white shoes would qualify as “almost entirely in white,” but, then again, I’m not a tennis guy.
The All England Club is quick to point out that Federer wasn’t the only person to receive a warning for a dress code violation after Monday’s opening round action. But he is the most famous.
