The 9 Most Expensive Tequilas On Earth

Tequila is good for pretty much two things: Getting you incredibly, irresponsibly drunk, and impressing people with your vast wealth and good taste. For the former, you can turn to pretty much any tequila. But for the latter, it takes a special breed, one that costs way more money than you should reasonably spend on something you probably won’t remember finishing.

But, we all have to have a vice, right? So here are nine of the most expensive tequilas on Earth. They come in the finest bottles, and are purported to be the very best in their class in terms of flavor, texture, aroma, and more. And they are very, very expensive.

Gran Patrón Platinum - $250

Gran Patrón Platinum tequila is renowned all over the world for its rich and buttery flavor, as well as its citrus-y finish. The secret may be in the volcanic ash that’s said to linger in the Mexican hills where this tequila is made. Whatever the secret, a bottle will cost your around $250.

Don Julio Real - $350

Don Julio Real is considered by most tequila historians to be the first truly luxury tequila ever made. It was made in Guadalajara and only marketed to that immediate area, which further increases its exclusive aura. Now, the tequila is manufactured by big brand Cuervo, but at $350 it’s still one of the most expensive tequilas out there.

Casa Herradua Seleccion Suprema - $350

The Casa Herradua Seleccion Suprema, made from one hundred percent Tequilana Weber Blue Agave, is one of the most respected, admired, and revered tequilas to come out of the region. And at $350, it’s also one of the most expensive. Its creamy and almost sparkling amber coloring puts it in the top class of tequilas all over the world.

Partida Elegante - $350

One way for tequila makers to earn a little extra walking around money is to package their wares in fancy and exclusive packaging. That’s part of the reason why each individually-numbered bottle of Partida Elegante comes with a silver Partida Tequila Spirit Bird hanging around its neck. Cost per bottle? $350.

Rey Sol Anejo - $400

At first sip, Rey Sol Anejo tequila is said to bring sensations of spicy vanilla and caramel to the tongue. Then comes the finish, which is said to have a more savory flavor. It’s all part of the luxury tequila drinking experience represented by blends like Rey Sol Anejo, which comes with an equally luxurious price tag of $400.

AsomBroso Reserva Del Porto - $1100

AsomBroso Reserva Del Porto

Every drop of AsomBroso Reserva Del Porto tequila has been aged for five years in a special oak barrel, which gives it its distinctive flavor and aroma. Of course, that kind of attention to quality costs money as well as time, so each bottle of the stuff will cost you around $1100 each. But for a certain level of tequila buff, it’s worth every penny.

1800 Tequila - $1800

The 1800 Collection tequila is a brand owned by the Beckmann family. This tequila’s pedigree doesn’t stop there, as its distinguished pewter decanter was specially designed by respected artists working in Mexico. And if you’re wondering why it’s called 1800 tequila – part of the reason is its $1800 asking price.

Barrique de Ponciano Porfidio - $2000

Barrique de Ponciano Porfidio

Barrique de Ponciano Porfidio is said to be manufactured utilizing a complicated chromatographic chemical process that refines and separates the tequila for the highest quality flavor possible. As you might guess, this process can be a bit expensive – $2000 a bottle, to be exact.

Ultra Premium Tequila Ley .925 Pasión Azteca - $225,000

When discussing the most expensive tequilas in the world, the number one spot isn’t really open to debate. It’s the Ultra Premium Tequila Ley .925 Pasión Azteca tequila, which at $225,000 is way ahead of the competition, at least in terms of pricing. As for flavor, I’d be happy to give my opinion if someone would just buy me a shot of the stuff. It couldn’t be that expensive, could it?
