BlackBerry’s BBM To Hit Android And iOS This Summer
Big news hit the smartphone world yesterday at BlackBerry Live. BlackBerry’s CEO Thorsten Heins made the announcement that BlackBerry’s messaging feature BBM will become an independent mobile app available for Android and iOS this summer.
It’s a good move for BlackBerry, as BBM is generally considered to be the new BlackBerry’s killer app. It also makes sense economically, as BlackBerry has little to no choice in the matter of cooperation with Android and Apple if they want to survive into the future.
Some of BBM’s best-liked features, such as screen-sharing and BBM voice, won’t be available for iOS and Android at first. But Heins made the promise that they would be coming soon after the global release of the BBM standalone app. You can check out some more information on the announcement here, and stay tuned for more specific release details.
