9 Cities With The Most Billionaires

Trying to find a new city to live in? You might try visiting a city in which you have some friends, and see if you like it. Or you could try applying for jobs in a variety of cities, and move wherever you’re accepted for employment. Or you could try a more novel approach: Go where the billionaires are.

With that in mind, here are the nine cities with the most billionaires. As you can see, there’s a wide variety of countries represented on the list. It just goes to show that billionaires a diverse group, with diverse tastes and interests. Check out the slideshow to see for yourself.

Paris, France

The City of Lights is famous as one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in the entire world. But did you know it’s also one of the richest? According to data from WealthInsight, Paris is the 9th most popular city in the world for billionaires. Maybe it’s all the rich food.

Shanghai, China

The 8th most popular city for billionaires is Shanghai, China. Known as the “Sleepless City,” it’s one of the biggest and most important cities in the world for commerce and finance. So it’s really no wonder that a lot of billionaires have focused their wealth there.

San Francisco, California

Although it’s known as an expensive city to live in, it might come as a surprise that San Francisco is home to so many billionaires. But when you consider the city’s importance in the tech field, and in other big-money enterprises, it becomes much less surprising. You don’t have to be a billionaire to live in San Francisco, but it definitely helps.

Istanbul, Turkey

Istanbul, Turkey is home to around 30 billionaires, making it the 6th most popular among that particular demographic. It’s a city that many refer to as “magical,” in addition to its numerous opportunities in the business and commerce worlds. It’s not hard to see the appeal of living in this meeting-place of the East and West.

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

The sole Indian city on the list is Mumbai, one of the jewels of subcontinent  As home to most of the important commerce and business that comes from India, Mumbai is one of the richest cities in the world, with a population of billionaires to match. A great place to visit, and a great place to live, if you can afford it.

Hong Kong, China

The city of Hong Kong is home to a variety of thriving industries, and has produced a number of billionaires in many of them. Like Istanbul, it is sometimes described as having a culture of “East meets West,” thanks to a very large western influence on the customs and governmental systems of Hong Kong. A definite must-consider for any billionaire!

London, England

The financial center of Europe is generally considered to be London, so it makes sense that it would have the highest number of billionaires in all of Europe (sans Russia). It goes to show that billionaires, like the rest of us, like to keep work close to home. And why not? Billionaires can deal with a little bit of fog from time to time.

Moscow, Russia

The second-most popular city for billionaires is the capital city of Russia: Moscow. This is not a spot that Moscow has held easily over the years: The recent recession caused many of the Russian billionaires living in Moscow to lose enough of their fortunes to no longer be considered billionaires – but they’re slowly but surely regaining much of this lost ground.

New York City, New York

Long considered the cultural and financial capital of the entire planet, New York City owns the top spot for billionaires in the name of the good old USA. And why not? Many of the biggest global companies on Earth call The Big Apple their home, so it makes sense that a lot of billionaires would choose to stay put.
