John Hennessey, a car nut who is famous for his supercharged custom cars, read a recent article in Car and Driver that got him thinking. In the article, Bugatti CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer says the Bugatti Galibier sedan, with a more than 1,000 horsepower engine, will be “faster than anything on the market,” including custom tuning cars like the ones Hennessey specializes in.
Hennessey took this as a challenge, and came up with a 1,226 HP Cadillac CTS-V Coupe, which he says will be able to outrace the multi-million-dollar Bugatti Galibier. Of course, the only way we’ll know for sure is if the people at Bugatti step up and agree to an actual track race, which seems a little unlikely.
For those interested in owning “the fastest car on the market,” you’ll be disappointed to hear that production of Hennessey’s 2013 VR1200 Twin Turbo Coupe will be limited to just 12 vehicles. So don’t expect to get one easily, or at a discounted price.
